Qatroon

City file Qatroon

Qatroon is a small village located in the Murzuq district. It is accessible by road from Murzuq and from Sebha with the last 80km into the city accessible only via desert road. It is located on the main routes connecting Libya to Niger and Chad and is considered a major entry point for migrants. This connectivity makes Qatroon a hub for human trafficking and illicit forms of trade. The municipality was established in 2014 because of its economic, social and security specificity during the government of former PM, Ali Zeidan. It consisted of five main neighbourhoods, prior to a decree issued by the Prime Minister Cabinet in 2021 regarding the establishment of the Tagerhi as an independent municipality.
