Ubari is a city located in southwestern Libya, famous for its beautiful desert nature and picturesque oases, making it one of the most prominent desert tourism destinations in Libya.. The Municipality of Ubari consists of five localities: Al-Hatiya, Al-Deesa, Central Ubari, Al-Mashrou’, and Al-Sharib. The areas of Al-Hatiya, Al-Deesa, and Al-Mashrou’ are geographically separated from the city center of Ubari. Ubari borders Wadi Al-Shati to the north, Sebha to the east, Murzuq to the south, and Ghat to the west. It is the largest municipality in Wadi Al-Ajal in terms of both population and area and holds strategic and economic importance as it hosts the largest oil field in the country (Al-Sharara). The city is famous for its natural lakes, such as Lake Qabraoun, and its local community, which includes Tuareg tribes that preserve their unique traditions and culture. Ubari’s economy is mainly based on agriculture and herding, in addition to its role as a rest stop on ancient trade routes. However, the city suffers from limited infrastructure challenges and difficulties in providing basic services. However, its charming nature and cohesive community provide great opportunities for sustainable development, especially in the fields of tourism and the local economy Ubari is known as one of the most culturally diverse cities in Libya, home to members of various tribes. Specifically, there are three main social components in the city: the Arab community (“Al-Ahali”), the Tebu, and the Tuareg. Civil society plays a prominent role in the social and cultural life of the city.
