Latest Updates on the Impact of Heavy Rainfall in Sebha Municipality

As of Wednesday, 18sep, the total number of affected individuals registered with the census committee has reached (1,952). The affected categories are as follows:  

  • Collapsed homes: 39% of the total affected.  
  • Homes at risk of collapse: 28%.  
  • Property damage:  33%.  

Efforts by the electricity company to restore power to several neighbourhoods are ongoing but face challenges, including flooding in some areas and damaged transformers.  

Emergency and response teams have received verified lists of those in need of aid from social affairs teams. Starting tomorrow, assistance will be distributed to eligible households in coordination with local representatives.  

Environmental sanitation teams in Sebha Municipality have started analysing water in areas where rainwater has mixed with sewage. Disinfection and spraying activities will begin in more neighbourhoods after relief and water extraction efforts are completed.  

The Mayor of Sebha has tasked the Urban Planning and Projects Department with preparing a comprehensive plan for informal neighbourhoods, which will be submitted to the main committee and relevant authorities.  

Sebha International Airport has resumed operations after days of closure.
