Description:
In August, Libya’s Minimum Expenditure Basket (MEB) increased by +2.8% from July, reaching LYD 954.11, continuing a steady rise since January 2024. Southern Libya remains the most expensive region, with Murzuq seeing a +5% price hike, pushing the Full MEB to LYD 1,128.68. In the West, Misrata (+10.8%), Sirt (+9.7%), Zwara (+9.6%), and Azzawya (+9.1%) saw significant price increases, driven by a blockade from oil fields due to conflicts over the Central Bank. The Eastern region experienced a +2.5% rise in prices, affected by an influx of 97,000 Sudanese refugees and extreme weather events, including heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
