The PhD dissertation titled examines the untapped potential of Libya’s tourism industry as a supplementary pillar for its oil-dominated economy. It identifies Libya’s diverse tourism assets, such as its Mediterranean coastline, Saharan oases, rich cultural heritage, and historical sites, while analyzing barriers like political instability, lack of infrastructure, and weak international branding. The research employs strategic tools such as SWOT, SOAR, and STEEP analyses to propose actionable strategies for stakeholders to develop tourism as a sustainable economic sector.
The dissertation directly links to Southern Libya, emphasizing its unique Saharan landscapes and cultural sites like the Ubari Sand Sea and Ghadames, showcasing the region’s adventure and cultural tourism potential.
